Responding to a Growing Community Need
The village of N’Gana, located in the Sikasso region of Mali, has experienced steady population growth in recent years. With that growth came an urgent challenge: there was no adequate middle school to serve the rising number of students ready to continue their education. Without a local option, many students faced a difficult choice. Travel long distances to attend school or stop their education altogether. Empower Mali stepped in to help close that gap. Through a generous donation from the JP Peace Love and Happiness Foundation, a new middle school was constructed to meet the immediate and long-term needs of the community.
Building a School Designed for Real Impact
The Alexis DeJoria Middle School of N’Gana was built with both function and sustainability in mind. The project includes:
- Three fully equipped classrooms
- A director’s office with integrated storage space
- Six toilets to support student health and hygiene
Each element was intentionally designed to support both students and educators. The goal was not just to build a structure, but to create a place where learning can happen consistently and effectively. This school now provides a stable environment where students can gather, learn, and prepare for the next stage of their education.
Extending Opportunity Beyond One Village
While the school is located in N’Gana, its impact reaches far beyond a single community. Students from neighboring villages, including Tiéfina and Mima, now have access to a middle school within a reasonable distance. This shared access model strengthens the region as a whole, allowing more students to stay in school and continue progressing. When education becomes accessible, enrollment increases, dropout rates decline, and communities begin to see measurable change. This school represents that shift.
Partnership That Makes Progress Possible
A defining strength of this project is the partnership behind it. The support from the JP Peace Love and Happiness Foundation made it possible to move quickly and meet an urgent need. Empower Mali’s role ensured that the project was executed in alignment with local priorities, community involvement, and long-term sustainability. This kind of collaboration creates results that last. It aligns resources, trust, and execution in a way that serves the community both now and in the years ahead.
A Foundation for the Future
The Alexis DeJoria Middle School is more than a building. It is a commitment to the future of the region’s youth. Students who now have access to education at this level are more likely to continue into higher levels of schooling, develop valuable skills, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Families gain confidence knowing their children have a place to learn. Communities gain strength as education becomes part of daily life.
Moving Forward with Purpose
Empower Mali continues to focus on projects that remove barriers and create opportunity where it is needed most. This school stands as a clear example of what can happen when urgency meets action and when partnership is aligned with purpose. Each classroom built represents access. Each student served represents potential. Each project completed moves an entire region forward. For those looking to invest in meaningful, measurable change, this is what progress looks like.
