40 Tractors For 40 Villages. Ouelessebougou and other parts of rural Mali

Fundraising Goal: $27,500 per tractor

Location: 40 Villages in Ouelessebougou, Mali and other rural areas

Partners: Each village which will benefit

The Problem: Agriculture plays an important role in economic growth as a source of jobs and income for the Malian population. Despite the majority of the employment force being in the agricultural sector, the production of grains have largely stagnated. This is in part due to the lack of technology and machinery available in the farming sectors.

The Solution: Empower Mali is raising funds for a food security initiative that will impact the entire city of Ouélessébougou (Population 55K) and other rural areas in Mali. The project will allow farmers to modernize their business and help increase production of staples like cotton, sorghum, millet, maize, and rice. A massive increase in productivity and output will make a decisive improvement in production, employment and increase rural incomes.

Long Term Impact: By bringing in the equipment to mechanize and improve yields, there will be a positive economic impact in the village in terms on produce (that can be used/sold) and jobs. The project falls within the framework of a vast food security initiative through the mechanization of farming to increase food production and help create jobs.
